Pick Your Battles (the Morrigan Work) - s03e02

Season #3

S03E02: Pick Your Battles

The Mórrígan divides the work out loud before the battle, and this episode gives you a five minute practice for doing the same thing with your own.

Episode description

If you're doing far more than you were ever asked to do and it still doesn't feel like enough, this one's for you. Lora goes to the Samhain meeting between the Mórrígan and the Dagda at the Unshin of Corand in the Cath Maige Tuired, where the goddess names his portion of the coming battle and then names her own, and reads that division as an instruction.

Overwhelm gets treated here as a sign that you're holding somebody else's half, not as evidence you're failing at devotion. There's a five minute practice at the end that you can run tonight, lying down, with nothing but your own two hands.

What you'll learn

  • How the Unshin passage divides the work out loud, and what that asks of you
  • A three question check you can run in under five minutes, anywhere, before sleep
  • How to feel the difference in your body between her work and absorbed weight
  • Why a portion you can't name in one sentence probably belongs to someone else

Practice in the episode

This one runs five minutes, last thing at night, and it goes like this: get still, hand on chest or belly, three breaths, then three questions, what did I pick up today that nobody asked me to carry, what's actually mine right now, and what can I put down for tonight. You say the answer out loud, and you run it for seven nights.

Journal prompt

What did I agree to carry this week that nobody asked me for, and what did saying yes to it cost me?
